But did you know you can make fully-assembled freezer meals… and cook them directly from frozen??

RECIPE: Easy {One Hour} 3-Ingredient Instant Pot Bone Broth

There are approximately a gazillion recipes for bone broth on the internet (give or take) and a growing number for the Instant Pot. Most traditional methods involve simmering bones – typically chicken or beef – for 12-24 hours. While this yields a nutritious and inexpensive bone broth, this method does require planning ahead and some time management.   Continue reading

{Classical Conversations} How To Survive Tutoring Abecedarians

How To Survive Tutoring Abecedarians

When I went to college to get a teaching degree, I was adamant about one thing. Teaching preschool was NOT for me. The thought of spending hours in a classroom setting with 4 and 5 year olds literally made me break out in a cold sweat.

But becoming a parent has a way of changing you. And when my own daughter got old enough to participate in Classical Conversations, I took a deep breath and signed up to tutor her Abecedarian (aka: 4 and 5yo) class.

RECIPE: Instant Pot Spaghetti Sauce (with Frozen Ground Beef)

Stemming back to my childhood, Wednesday night has always been spaghetti night in our house. My mom started this tradition as a way to survive the hectic, busy Wednesday rush between school and evening activities. And when you throw in my Italian heritage, a meaty marinara sauce over a steaming bowl of noodles was simply perfect.

But, believe it or not, spaghetti night needed an upgrade.

We buy our ground beef in bulk from a local farmer (or sometimes Costco) and store it in the freezer. While this saves us incredibly money, it does require remembering to thaw my meat.

Which is something I’m TERRIBLE at.

Top Ten Farmer Gifts For The Female FarmHER

“Women make do.” That’s what we do and the garden is no exception. When something does not work, we make it work because at the end of the day, things need to get done. As ladies have twisted, pulled, pushed, and toiled in the soil over the centuries, we have done so largely with the aid of tools designed for men.

Over the last few years, we have been given some fantastic farm related gifts and have tried out dozens of products. There are more and more companies making things specifically for hard working women (including work clothing!).  Continue reading

{Classical Conversations} What’s In My Tutor Bag (Plus Review Games)

What I Keep in my Tutor Bag

There are few things I relish more than being a Classical Conversations tutor. Our family is absolutely in love with the Classical Conversations program and the structure it brings to our school year. As I told my director: “Being a tutor is such a gift! I can’t believe I get paid to play games and hang out with kids all morning!”

RECIPE: Easy Instant Pot {Brined!} Whole Chicken with Lemon Au Jus

I’m not sure what became the deciding factor for me to purchase the Instant Pot. It may have been the ability to cook frozen ground beef in 25 minutes. Or to hard boil eggs in just 2 minutes (with no ice bath necessary). But the deciding factor came when I realized I could make my own delicious, whole chicken with virtually NO MESS and super easy clean up.

RECIPE: Instant Pot “Baked” Sweet Potatoes

No need to wait an hour for your oven to cook sweet potatoes. Thanks to the Instant Pot, you can now have sweet potatoes ready in a fraction of the time!

I have a confession. For as much as my family loves sweet potatoes, I hardly ever made them over the last four years. The main reason? The last four years have been very hard on our family and menu planning has been much more spur of the moment than strategic. So rather than doing the smart thing — planning ahead, remembering to put sweet potatoes in the oven an hour before we needed to eat — we ended up just not eating sweet potatoes. Sad, huh? Continue reading

RECIPE: Candie’s Curry in a Hurry (Paleo! Instant Pot!)

Need a delicious Paleo curry that comes together in 15 minutes? Thanks to the Instant Pot, you now have all the time you need to enjoy a bowl of seconds.

There are few things I love more in this world than delicious flavor and things that excite the tastebuds.    In our area, there are so many restaurants that boast international flavors: Indian, Mexican, Italian, Chinese. I love cuisine with an exotic flair. And curries are amazing.

Unfortunately, with my family’s diagnosis of Celiac disease this past summer, eating out has become almost completely impossible. Continue reading

Instant Pot Accessories: What You Need and How To Use Them

Instant Pot Accessories and How To Use Them

It wasn’t long after purchasing my Instant Pot that I became interested in accessories. Yes, that’s right. Your Instant Pot can have accessories.

If you’re around the Instant Pot Facebook group much, you’ll see people raving about their accessories. There are certainly a lot of specialty items and doo-dads you can purchase to make cooking in your Instant Pot even more exciting.

People ask me all the time – which accessories should I get?? But here’s where I struggle. At heart, I’m a kitchen minimalist. I don’t want to just buy stuff to have stuff. So I’m going to present these accessories in order of ranking: Absolutely Necessary (because there are some that simply are!), Really Helpful To Have, and Fun If You Have The Extra Money.
